Journey beneath the waves…  Journey into the unconscious self… What will you find there?

I originally composed this song for a play title "Urashima Tarō and the Shadow Dragon," about a young man from a Japanese fishing village who had a debilitating fear of the water because he lost his father to the sea.  A fear so strong he could not go out on the fishing boats, and had to fish from the shore.  One day he saved a giant turtle from a group of children who were torturing it, and the turtle rewards him by taking him deep into the sea to the Palace of the Dragon.

In the play, which was a variation on the original Japanese story, he fears the water because it is the unconscious self, but by journeying there he empowers himself as he overcomes his fear of the underwater world, and of the dragon who resides there as well.

In the original story, Urashima Tarō spends three days in the underwater world, but when he returns to his village, 300 years have passed.
